HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – Deputies with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday arrested a 42-year-old woman in connection with allegations that she got high on marijuana and used a broom, fishing rods and a piece of metal rod to attack a man.
Crystal Dawn Costlow, of Larue, is still being held in Henderson County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. His bail was set at $30,000.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, an HCSO patrol sergeant was dispatched to the 9200 block of County Road 4346 in Larue on April 28 to verify a disturbance report. A woman told the dispatch that Costlow was on the property, causing trouble.
As the HCSO sergeant was on his way to the scene, Costlow reportedly left the house and began walking towards his home, which is also on CR 4346. The dispatcher also told the sergeant that the victim called 911 to talk to an assistant.
The sergeant called the victim by telephone and asked him what had happened.
The victim, a 44-year-old man, said Costlow used marijuana before he began acting “aggressively and violently,” according to the affidavit. Costlow reportedly began yelling at the man from the kitchen and accusing him of talking to another woman through the bedroom window.
Costlow punched the man in the mouth and then proceeded to hit him with the kitchen broom, the affidavit states. After the man took Costlow’s broom away, she allegedly grabbed his fishing rods and started hitting him with it.
At that time, the victim struggled to remove Costlow’s fishing rods, according to the affidavit. She then allegedly began kicking and scratching him, “causing bodily harm”.
“[The victim] said she then picked up a piece of metal rod (about three-quarters of an inch in diameter, 6-7 inches long used for a receiver trailer hitch) and hit him on the arm,” the affidavit states. . “[The victim] said he hugged Crystal until she calmed down.
According to the affidavit, Costlow continued to scratch and attack him. She also allegedly tried to bite him.
The victim released Costlow after he calmed down. However, she continued to attack him and he withdrew from the residence, the affidavit states.
The HCSO sergeant who obtained the arrest warrant spoke to two female witnesses after arriving at the scene. They told her that they had seen Costlow enter her home. When the sergeant and a deputy approached the house, Costlow walked out the front door.
Costlow reportedly staggered down the steps and continued to struggle to walk steadily when she came down.
“She seemed drunk and belligerent,” the affidavit states.
When Costlow was asked if she had used illegal drugs, she said yes, according to the affidavit.
During the investigation, paramedics told law enforcement that she could overdose on the narcotics she had taken, and she was released for treatment at UT Health in Athens.
The HCSO deputy at the scene with the sergeant photographed the victim’s injuries to his arms, chest, back, neck and left side of his face.
