Impure, June 1 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) held a processional program to all churches under its constituent on May 31 to mark the day of ‘Abstinence from Intoxicants’. ABAM has been observing the day for a few years now by organizing different programs.
“The procession was not meant to condemn or curse the intoxicant, but to educate the general public about the effects of intoxicants and also to help the indulgent to abstain from them,” said Rev. Dr. Mar. Pongener, executive secretary of ABAM, said in a press release.
Dr Mar said concerns about alcoholics and the large number of tobacco users, both smokeless and smoked, in Mokokchung district were succinctly discussed. “The need for strict regulation from the administration and the serious ministerial involvement of the church and the family can have a great impact in the fight for abstinence were the main highlights of the speakers” , he added.
ABAM has encouraged every individual, organization, and church to continually work toward abstinence from intoxicants, even if the outcome is very close.
Meanwhile, ABAM held the procession culmination program at Mokokchung City Baptist Church (MTBA) with churches in Mokokchung City and surrounding areas. It was also attended by the apex bodies of Mokokchung City and Excise Department, Mokokchung.
The speakers were Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM, Limatemsu Changkeri, Superintendent, Excise Mokokchung, Limanungsang Kichu, President, All Ward Union Mokokchung, S Arenla Lkr President, Watsu Mungdang, and Limasangwa Media & Social concern Coordinator, ABAM.
