APC campaign board slams Atiku over Tinubu drug test appeal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has reprimanded People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer Atiku Abubakar for demanding a drug test for its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He noted that Tinubu is fit as a fiddle and has no health issues, although he said Atiku media handlers resorted to insults, abuse and lies because they are nervous about an impending defeat in the 2023 polls.

Atiku-Okowa Campaign Council Spokesman, Senator Dino Melaye, had on Saturday requested the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to carry out drug tests on leading presidential candidates ahead of the presidential polls of 2023.

Briefing reporters over the weekend, Melaye argued that it is a constitutional requirement for anyone aspiring to the office of President of Nigeria to be mentally and physically fit.

“Tinubu is not physically and mentally fit. I challenge him to a medical between him and Atiku. Because it is a constitutional requirement to be president and he has to fulfill it,” Melaye said.

But hitting back at Atiku’s campaign team, the APC campaign team said the alarm raised by Tinubu’s medical condition was misplaced.

In a statement released yesterday, the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council’s Director, Special Media Projects and New Media, Mr. Femi Fani Kayode said that Atiku was nervous about an impending defeat.

The former aviation minister said: ‘When he and his male friends try to mock the Jagaban over health issues, I laugh and shake my head in pity for them. The truth is that Asiwaju is so far ahead of Atiku in this and every other respect and they know it.

“As the days pass, their collective ignorance, pettiness, foolishness and weakness become more and more apparent. A man who cannot hold his own party wants to be president. You cannot trust a man who cannot understand the suffering of the people and who rejoices when people suffer and when there is trouble in the country.

“A man who tries to give the impression that he was integral to Obasanjo’s success as president when in reality he was trying to thwart the government’s efforts to improve the lives of our people is nothing less than treacherous and deceitful and he cannot trust power,” he said.
