On July 21, 2022, at 11:19 p.m., North Ward officers responded to a car accident in the 8000 block of North Hurst Avenue. When officers arrived, they saw a silver vehicle in the middle of the street with the bumper detached and hanging from the car. The vehicle had struck an unoccupied parked car. Officers contacted the driver of the car who appeared to be intoxicated. Officers opened an investigation into the accident and impaired driving and ultimately arrested the driver.
Since the car was now a hazard and could not be chased away, the car had to be towed, necessitating a vehicle inventory. During officers’ inventory of the car, a firearm and a loaded magazine were found in a bag in a child’s car seat. The firearm was seized as part of the investigation.
Damon Latrail McDonald, 31, was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center on Felon’s charge of possession of a firearm and driving under the influence of intoxicants. In addition to the criminal charges, McDonald was held for a criminal parole violation and issued a citation for driving with suspension, driving without insurance, and failing to install an ignition interlock device.
