Four-month secret investigation ends with 50 arrests and several seizures

A four-month undercover investigation in the parish of Saint-Landry resulted in 50 arrests and the seizure of firearms, drugs and cash.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office focused efforts in the operation, which began in April, on smaller towns and communities, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said.

“The main objective of the operation was to prevent violent drug and gun offenders from ‘terrorizing’ our small townships and driving communities through shootings, vehicle break-ins, gun thefts and the distribution illegal drugs,” the sheriff said. “Many police chiefs, citizens and mayors contacted me requesting law enforcement assistance in late 2021. It was noted that communities lack the manpower and resources to conduct such operations.”

Guidroz said it was clear drug traffickers saw these small communities as an opportunity.

“It appears that the criminal element sees small towns and communities as easy targets for their illicit trade and has shifted their illegal activities to these areas of the parish,” Sheriff Guidroz said. “I commit our resources in partnership with the unincorporated communities of St. Landry Parish and municipalities to promote safe and secure neighborhoods.”
