PDEA-7 steps up K9 random inspections at piers, airports and warehouses

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7) is stepping up K9 random inspections to ban the possible illegal drug trade in mail and parcels in the region.

Leiah Albiar, spokesperson for PDEA-7, said the inspections were part of their existing coordination with companies like Lalamove, J&T and others.

In addition, the national office continues to work in coordination with other delivery / shipping companies to reduce or prevent drug personalities from taking advantage of the services offered by these companies.

Albiar said this following the seizure inside a parcel of at least 50 grams of “shabu” with a market value of around 340,000 pesos on Saturday, August 21, at Barangay Poblacion 2, in the city of Tagbilaran, in the province of Bohol.

She said further investigation would be carried out to determine the identity of the sender and recipient.

Albiar declined to give more information due to planned operations against the suspects.

Albiar said this routine inspection was in full coordination with the respective company.

K9 units are supplied to each provincial office which conduct random inspections at the piers, airports and warehouses of these transport companies.

Random inspections in these areas are part of the operational objectives of PDEA-7 which they carry out throughout the year with other regional offices. Since this is a daily operation, she said she could not provide a rate on the status of their campaign against illegal drugs for that year alone.
