It was – according to Kenneth Gilbertie – “the Bottle Shop liquor store, a barber shop, a Tiffany lamp store (actually a front for illegal drugs), Soup’s On kitchen for many years, then the kitchen caterers (Cabbages & Kings) Now it’s just a ghost store.
It has been described, variously, as across from Franklin Street, across from Westport Chinese Takeout, and – by the ever-accurate Gloria Gouveia – “56 Saugatuck Avenue”.
The “little shop built on the hillside by exit 17” (Clark Thiemann) was also the photo challenge last week.
It’s all that, and more. For example, it’s one of the most familiar, abandoned, and questioned horrors in town. When traffic slows down on Saugatuck Avenue, drivers have plenty of time to watch it. (You can also: Click here for Kevin McCaul’s photo.)
Besides the names listed above, readers who knew exactly where this was include Monika Lazaro, Leah Nash, Ralph Balducci, Fred Cantor, Jonathan McClure, Andrew Colabella, Stephanie Ross, and John Lisee.
