HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui police arrested three people on Sunday for drug-related crimes in Kihei.

The MPD said a group of plainclothes officers responded to complaints about a drum circle at Poolenalena Beach around 3 p.m.

Authorities said they recognized a man and a woman wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

Police have arrested and charged Gary Gadient, 55, with promoting a dangerous drug and breaching a protective order. While he was booked, officials said they found crystal meth and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $1,000 and he is still being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center.

Officers also arrested and charged Kayla Phelan, 26, with drug promotion and other misdemeanors. His bail was set at $10,000. Police said she is currently on probation pending her court hearing.

Maui police also arrested a 44-year-old Napili woman who offered “edible chocolates” containing “mushrooms” to one of the officers.

During their investigation, authorities said they recovered marijuana, suspected ecstasy capsules and psilocybin mushrooms.

Police have warned they will continue their crackdown on illegal activity at beach parks.
