WALKER FIRE UPDATE: As of 7 a.m. Saturday, Cal Fire reports the Walker Fire south of Willits was 40% contained and remained at 109 acres as “staff improved lines of control, secured spot fires and mitigated dangerous trees, increasing containment. The fire started shortly before 4 p.m. on September 1, east of Highway 101 at Mile 43.50. Since then, no structures have been destroyed or damaged, but two firefighters were reportedly injured.

PERSON LIGHTING FIREWORKS: A caller to Ukiah Natural Foods reported at 2:25 p.m. on August 3 that someone at the nearby bus stop was lighting fireworks. An officer responded and reported that the person had been placed in the care of mental health personnel.

DEATH: An officer responded to the 300 block of North Main Street at 11:52 a.m. on August 5 and took a death report.

EGGS IN CAR: A caller in the 800 block of South Dora Street reported at 11:20 a.m. on August 6 that their vehicle had been hit by eggs overnight.

DUI: An officer stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of West Smith Street at 2:54 a.m. on August 7 and arrested 28-year-old Sarah Schmitz of Ukiah on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was cited and released.

DEAD CAT: A caller in the 100 block of Oak Manor Drive reported at 3:53 p.m. on August 7 that a dead cat was on the road.

CAMPERS UNDER THE ORR CREEK BRIDGE: An officer patrolling the Orr Creek Bridge at 8:06 p.m. on August 8 cited and released two people, a 29-year-old male Ukiah and a 28-year-old female Ukiah, for illegal camping and polluting state waterways and arrested a 33-year-old Ukiah man for county warrants. He was incarcerated in the Mendocino County Jail.

ILLEGAL CAMPING: An officer patrolling in the early morning hours of August 11 cited and released three people for illegal camping: A 26-year-old Ukiah man in the plaza; a 61-year-old Willits man near Building Bridges and a 52-year-old man on Perry Street.

MAN PISSING IN STORE: A caller to Safeway on South State Street reported at 6:16 p.m. on August 11 that a man was urinating in the grocery store. An officer responded and cited and released a 38-year-old Ukiah man for violating city code.

People arrested by law enforcement are innocent until proven guilty. Those reported to have been arrested can contact the Daily Journal once their case has been concluded so that the results can be released. Those who believe the information is incorrect should contact the appropriate agency. In the case of arrestees suspected of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, all cases of impaired driving reported by law enforcement are reported by the newspaper.
