Tarn Taran: The police arrested two defendants and recovered 2,120 tablets of tramadol (clovedol.100 SR) on Saturday near the village of Jhabal. SHO Prabhjit Singh said the accused was identified as Vany from Bhikhiwind and Harjinder Singh from Ghurkwind village. A case under Sections 22(C), 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been filed. CO

Teachers elect board members

Tarn Taran: Prabhjot Singh Gohalwar was unanimously elected District Chairman of Teachers’ Front of BEd, Punjab at a meeting of district level union members held here on Saturday. Prabhjot Singh was elected district chairman for the third consecutive term. In addition, Sukhdev Raj Patti was elected its parton and Jangsher Singh Boparai as general secretary and senior vice-president. Prabhjot Singh insisted on removal of anomalies in Sixth Wage Commission report, restoration of old pension scheme, regularization of services of contract employees. At the meeting, the presidents of eight block units were also elected. CO

56-year-old man killed in road accident

Tarn Taran: A person was killed in a road accident on the Jhabal-Attari road near the village of Gandiwind on Friday when his car collided head-on with a mini-bus coming from the opposite side. The deceased was identified as Rasal Singh (56), a resident of Sarai Amanat Khan. He worked as a lab technician at the Valtoha Community Health Center. He was driving home from work in his car. He was at the village of Gandiwind, located just one kilometer behind his village, when a stray animal suddenly appeared on the road. As he tried his best to avoid the animal, his car collided with the oncoming mini-bus. He was seriously injured. While being taken to a private hospital in Amritsar, he died en route. ASI Sukhdev Singh, assigned to Sarai Amanat Khan Police Station, said on the statement of Jatinderpal Singh, son of the victim, that a case under Section 174, CrPC, had been filed. The autopsy of the body was performed on Saturday at the local civil hospital. CO

Police arrest rape accused

Tarn Taran: The police arrested an accused of rape on Friday. The accused was identified as Jaspal Singh from Jaura village. The victim, a married woman from the village of Thathi Khara, had filed a complaint with the police on Friday. Police say the victim was at home on July 24 when the accused committed the crime. He allegedly threatened her with disastrous consequences. A case under Articles 376 and 506 of the ICC has been registered against the accused. Deputy Inspector Sunita Rani took the victim’s statement.
